Wade Barrett may have stepped away from wrestling in 2016, but he’s embraced a new role as the lead color commentator on WWE Raw, where he works alongside Joe Tessitore.
Barrett transitioned to announcing in WWE in 2020. Someone who has successfully made a similar switch is JBL, who moved from the ring to the commentary table back in 2006 after concluding his wrestling career.
Speaking on a podcast with HugePop, JBL Was asked about Barrett returning to the ring and had the following to say:
He’s still young. He was a good worker. Yeah, I think he probably will. If I were him, do it. You have all of your life to do commentary. You don’t have all your life to get into the ring. If I’m him, if you still have the urge, just try it. If it doesn’t work out, so what, go back to commentary. If it does, you’ve got something, and then go back to commentary.
Barrett previously hinted at a return to the ring by reacting to a WWE Social Media post which can be seen below:
Both Barrett and JBL exemplify how former wrestlers can seamlessly shift to commentary, using their in-ring experience to enhance storytelling and connect with the audience in a new way. We will provide more info on an in-ring return for Wade Barrett as it/if it becomes available. Stay tuned into our WWE NEWS.
